Young surfers competed in championship sponsored by PETROPERU
With the sponsorship of PETROPERU, the last weekend the O'Neill Pro Junior Series Girls & Boys 2018, youth stage of the World Surf League (WSL) championship was held at Lobitos beach, in Talara.
In this important sporting event, the South American title Pro Junior 2018 of the WSL South America, male category, was defined after an exceptional final in which the Brazilian Samuel Pupo defeated the Peruvian Jhonny Guerrero.
In addition to the two finalists, our compatriot Raúl Dañino and the Brazilian Eduardo Motta also guaranteed their positions as South American representatives in the Pro Junior World Championship to be held in Taiwan next December.
In the women's division, the Peruvian Sol Aguirre won in the final over her compatriot Daniela Rosas. With this victory, Sol Aguirre is one step closer to achieving her second consecutive professional WSL South America Pro Junior title. To achieve his goal, Aguirre must obtain a significant result in the decisive São Chico Ecological Festival, which will be held in Santa Catarina, Brazil.
As part of the international championship, a surfing "lightning tournament" was held, aimed exclusively at young people from Talara and Lobitos, with the aim of promoting healthy recreation.
In this way, the O'Neill Pro Junior Series returned after five years to the Lobitos beach and had the participation of more than 70 young Peruvian and Brazilian athletes.
Caring for the environment
Additionally, the young athletes and the public that attended the championship participated in a day of beach cleaning to motivate the neighbors to be environmentally friendly citizens.
