Villa El Salvador and Lurín volunteers came together to clean San Antonio beach

More than 180 volunteers from schools, universities and neighbors of Villa El Salvador (VES) and Lurín, yesterday participated in a cleaning day at San Antonio de Lurín beach, in which they managed to collect 658 kilos of solid waste, between glass bottles and plastic, cardboard, bags, wood and disposable packaging that contaminated the place.

The campaign, which was organized by the VES Voluntary Socio-Environmental Monitoring and Monitoring Committee in coordination with PETROPERU and in alliance with the organizations Futuro Sostenible and HAZla por tu playa, was supported by the municipalities of VES and Lurín; institutions that as a whole seek to raise public awareness about the negative impact that solid waste generation has on the environment and on the marine ecosystem, as well as their inadequate disposal.

Paola Quijandría, president of the VES Voluntary Socio-Environmental Monitoring and Surveillance Committee and also the leader of the Los Laureles Human Settlement, welcomed PETROPERU's participation in this initiative, since it points out that in this way the cleaning of areas of common use is promoted, such as Beach that is very crowded in the summer by families in the area.

He also added that with the state oil company they carry out a series of activities with neighbors in which they promote the recycling and segregation of solid waste, which are used as composting in their bio-gardens. Also, they make talks to reduce the use of plastics, among other measures that seek care of the environment.

This cleaning day is the third of the year carried out by the aforementioned committee in coordination with PETROPERU, as part of the Social Management Plan that the oil company carries out with the communities near its facilities to strengthen citizen participation mechanisms and promote care and environmental protection.
