The results to determine the possible origin of the oily stains in the Pastaza river will be available in one week

With regards to the origin of the oily stains from past May 25 in the Pastaza River, near Km. 12 of the North Branch Pipeline (ORN), near the district of Andoas, Datem del Marañón province, Loreto region, PETROPERU informs the public opinion that:

1. In a week or so -and depending on the weather conditions- the results of the bathymetric study with 3D technology will be carried out by the Costa Rican company MATECH, in order to rule out the existence of any possible microcracks in the subfluvial crossing of the ORN with the Pastaza River, because of the exceptional flood of the river.
2. Likewise, as part of the preventive actions contemplated in the Contingency Plan, the pumping of crude in the ORN is suspended, until the origin of the oily stains is determined.
3. As previously reported, the results of the internal inspection carried out by the company Rosen, a German company specializing in pipeline maintenance, conclude that there are no corrosion problems in the pipeline of the ORN subfluvial junction with the Pastaza River. While the preliminary tests did not identify signs of damage, nor pressure losses of the ORN.
4. It should be noted that to date no new oil spots have been observed in the Pastaza River. This has also been verified in the fluvial inspection carried out on Sunday, May 27, together with personnel of the prosecutor's office, OEFA, Osinergmin and environmental monitors of the communities.
5. On the other hand, in relation to the waste found in some palisades in the area, PETROPERU has hired the company Kanay to carry out an evaluation of the possible affected areas and execute the immediate cleaning.
6. PETROPERU continues in permanent coordination with the inspection bodies and is reporting the progress of the investigations to the nearby communities. In this sense, these communities are invoked to provide the facilities to continue with the technical and operational actions that are being carried out in the area.

PETROPERU will continue communicating the results of the mentioned activities, likewise, it will continue making the necessary efforts to safeguard the security of the surrounding communities and the protection of the environment.
