The presence of hydrocarbons in the Cuninico River is ruled out
Given the alert issued by leaders of indigenous organizations of the Cuninico native community, located in the district of Urarinas, in Loreto, about the alleged presence of hydrocarbon residues in the river of the same name, the Environmental Assessment and Enforcement Agency (OEFA) carried out supervision and according to its results, it is ruled out that such an event is occurring.
This was announced at the meeting of the Loreto Conflict Prevention and Management Committee (COPREGESCON), in which representatives of the Ombudsman's Office, OEFA, the Regional Health Management (GERESA) and the Loreto-Nauta Health Network participated, to report on the actions taken in response to this complaint, and in which Petroperú also participated.
At this meeting, OEFA updated the information on the investigation that its specialized team carried out in the area on October 19 and 20 of this year, indicating that no evidence of the presence of hydrocarbon residues has been found in the Cuninico River.
Likewise, it was learned that these verification actions were carried out with the accompaniment of Cuninico's vice apu, Yerllin Vásquez Cahuaza, after which the corresponding verification document was signed.
This contingency, in the Cuninico jurisdiction, was caused by the cutting of the North Peruvian Oil Pipeline (ONP) at kilometer 42 of Section I in 2022.
