The first stone was laid in the New Ilo Terminal
Today, the ceremony for laying the first stone of the new Ilo Terminal was carried out, which will allow to satisfactorily meet the current and projected demand of liquid fuels, mainly for the southern region of the country.
The act had the participation of the general manager of PETROPERU, Esteban Bertarelli; the Provincial Mayor of Ilo, Willam Valdivia; the Municipal Manager and technical secretary of the dialogue table, Favio Salas; the coordinator of the Provincial Local Coordination Council, Emiliana Machaca; and the Vice President of the Defense Front for the Interests of Ilo, Jorge Álvarez. Also, council members, authorities, personnel of Felguera -the contractor in charge of the work- and representatives of the state oil company.
For the general manager of PETROPERÚ, Esteban Bertarelli, this long-expected work is a demonstration of the fulfillment of the commitment of the company with the city. "With this investment, we are committed to providing decisive support for the progress and development of Ilo," he said, while detailing that construction will take place over a year in an area of 16.4 hectares and almost 17 water hectares for the marine terminal and submarine pipelines.
He noted that following the policy of promoting sustainable development in the different locations in which we intervene, we will also pay attention to the preference of local employment and the purchase of goods and services in the area. "The hiring for the work will be done through the Job Board of the Directorate of Labor of Ilo, whose maximum requirement of personnel is not greater than 300 people," he said.
For his part, the provincial mayor of Ilo, Willam Valdivia, highlighted the start of the work and stressed that it is done promoting local development to maximize the economy of the city. In addition, he thanked the management carried out by all the actors of the local dialogue table that has allowed to finalize the expected agreements.
Modern terminal
The new terminal is located 24 kilometers from the center of the city of Ilo, in front of El Palo beach, in the area called Loma La Buitrera; adjacent to ENGIE's electric power generation thermal power plant. It will distribute gasohol of 84, 90 and 95 octane for the south of the country, and Diesel B5-S50 for the Bolivian market. It will initially have a storage capacity of 293 thousand barrels, and its growth in the following stages will be up to approximately one million barrels.
In its facilities, the activities of reception, storage and dispatch of liquid fuels will be carried out. The reception of fuels will be done through three submarine pipelines from ships located approximately 1,300 meters away from the Terminal.
It will also have a bottom-loading dispatch system for tanker trucks with nine dispatch stations, each one of them will have the automation that will allow for safe dispatch, as well as the monitoring and control of each dispatch from the control room.
Likewise, it will be equipped with an automatic fire-fighting system consisting of two water storage tanks with a total capacity of 38 thousand barrels of water, two fire pumps with a nominal pump capacity of 600 gpm, and a water foam concentrate tank.
