The call for Petroperú Copé 2022 Awards comes to an end

The call for the XXII Short Story Biennial and the VIII Essay Biennial «2022 Copé Award» successfully concluded, considered the most important and emblematic award for stimulating literary creation in the country and organized - for 43 years, uninterruptedly - by Petroperú.

It should be noted that, at present, the contest organized by the state company is already a tradition, as it arouses the interest of thousands of Peruvians, including those from abroad, to send their works to the biennial. Also, a point to note is that many of the participants come from different regions.

This year, and since 2020 -due to the measures for the COVID-19 pandemic- the participation was carried out virtually, admitting in this edition 1960 stories and 59 essays that will go to the qualification stage, in charge of the jury. designated to do this job.

The jury for the 2022 Copé Award in each category will be made up of a representative from the following institutions: Peruvian Academy of Language, Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, Universidad Mayor de San Marcos, Ministry of Culture, and Petroperú. The decision will be final and will be announced from December 2022, through the contest website, the company's social networks and notifications to the winners themselves.

This year, the XXII Short Story Biennial will reward the first three places and the VIII Essay Biennial will award the first place with the awarding of the prizes established in the basis of the contest. Likewise, Petroperú will recognize the winners with the publication of the winning essay and an anthology of the winning and finalist stories, through its Ediciones Copé label.

It is worth noting that there are many narrators who have raised the Copé trophies, many of them becoming magnificent references in contemporary Peruvian literature, such as Cronwell Jara, Óscar Colchado, Luis Enrique Tord and Gregorio Martínez, among others.

Since 1979, the Copé Award literary contest has constantly contributed to the promotion and dissemination of Peruvian literature throughout the country, as part of Petroperú's commitment to the development of culture and literary creation in the country.
