The beginning of the cleaning and remediation works at urarinas is being hindered

Since yesterday August 23, the population of Nueva Alianza of the Urarinas District, Province of Loreto, lead by the local Apu, will not allow the entrance of personnel from LAMOR, company hired by PETROPERU to carry out the cleaning and remediation works of the crude leak which occurred in the 54 and 55 Km of the North Peruvian Pipeline.

PETROPERU is not aware of the reasons why the community has taken this measure. However, it is open to dialogue in order to begin the repair, cleanup and remediation works of this contingency, considering that the leak was controlled immediately, thus preventing its movement in the flotation canal.

The ONP flotation canal is an artificial facility built to house the pipeline and serve as a barrier to contain the crude in case of leaks. Additionally, it is equipped with security plugs that prevent the exit of the crude to other bodies of water. It must be indicated that the operations of the ONP are paralyzed since February of this year.

As is proper, PETROPERU has reported in a timely manner these events to the competent authorities, with whom constant communication is being maintained.

More information will be forthcoming.
