Teachers take over Station 5 of the North Peruvian Pipeline

Early this morning, a group of teachers and residents of the district of Manseriche, province of Datem del Marañón, Loreto region, forcibly entered the facilities of Station 5 of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), located in said town.

The protesters, who demand attention to demands related to the fulfillment of commitments of the Education sector, forced the electric generator of said operation to be turned off, leaving the station without power and also preventing the supply of water; putting at risk the food and health of the personnel of Petroperú and contractors and also affecting nearby towns.

This incursion into the facilities of the ONP, a Critical National Asset, generates a scenario of imminent danger due to the presence of highly flammable substances in tanks and pipes that - if they come into contact with a heat source - would produce explosions and fires of great magnitude with regrettable consequences for the life and health of the protesters themselves and the surrounding population.

Petroperú urges teachers and residents of the native communities who support the strike to remain open to dialogue with the relevant authorities and requests that they withdraw peacefully from the facilities, avoiding putting their own safety, that of the workers and the nearby communities at risk.
