Talara Modular Hospital plays a key role in the fight against COVID-19

The Talara Modular Hospital, which PETROPERU donated to ESSALUD, has been operating at 100% of its operational capacity, becoming an important ally in the fight against COVID-19, since the infrastructure is fully equipped and has a modern Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with 15 beds for critical patient care, in addition to 30 hospital beds.

At present, this modern establishment -which began operations last December- has been contributing to the fight against the pandemic in the Piura region and especially in the province of Talara, where there was no ICU and patients who required artificial respiration and care critics were to be transferred to other cities, for their attention.

Since its commissioning, on December 16, 2020, 2,454 visits have been made in this new establishment, 699 in December and 1,755 in January, according to the doctor Ricardo Zúñiga Vallejos, director of the Hospital de Salud II Talara. Likewise, as of February 4, there were 27 hospitalized patients, 8 in the ICU and 7 with assisted ventilation. The services offered are triage, hospitalization and intensive care.

It should be noted that the Modular Hospital provides care to insured and uninsured patients who require artificial ventilation and critical care. In this way, the contribution of the state oil company -through this hospital- has been giving tranquility to the Talara population. On the other hand, the medical staff and nurses have highlighted the modern equipment that allows them to provide a quality service and work in safe conditions.

The operation and maintenance of the hospital is in charge of ESSALUD, which has assumed the provision of professional and technical staff, as well as supplies and medicines for the treatment of COVID-19. Those who show the first symptoms of the disease should approach the Triage Area, where specialist doctors determine if the patient is hospitalized or, instead, returns home, following certain recommendations.

In this way, the Company maintains and reinforces its permanent commitment in the fight against COVID-19, even more so taking into account the outbreak of the disease in various parts of the country. This work was built and delivered to the Health sector as part of PETROPERU's Social Management plan.
