Talara locals get to know more about the oil industry in unique exhibition Stone Oil

Children, youths and adults enjoyed the opening of the traveling exhibition "Stone Oil" that may be visited by the public until next July 31 in the administrative building of PETROPERU in Talara.

This unique exhibition connects the viewer with the oil industry. In this case, it is noteworthy that Piedra (Petra) and oil (Oleum) are the two Latin terms that we find in the etymology of the word petroleum, for which reason it is also called "Stone oil".

In the exhibition you can see a density mill, tubes to feel the texture of hydrocarbons, as well as other activities that will explain the process in which humanity has generated new technologies that changed history forever. This way, it becomes evident that oil is the basis not only of fuels but of many materials necessary for daily life.

The exhibition, whose curatorship falls to the archaeologist Gabriela Bertone, is divided into seven moments and an artistic intervention, going from the origin of oil, its characteristics, derived products and even alternative energies.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Jorge Almestar Mauricio, Manager of Refinacion Talara of PETROPERU, who indicated that this activity is part of the program of activities carried out by the state company for the 101st anniversary of Talara Refinery, which also includes a presentation by the Philharmonic Society of Lima and cultural show at Plaza Grau.

Visiting hours

The exhibition will remain open to the public from June 29 to July 31, and runs Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the second floor of the Administrative Building of PETROPERU, located on the Prolongación Av. G-2, Talara. Admission is free.
