Table tennis program will benefit over seven thousand schoolchildren from Talara
More than seven thousand schoolchildren and 60 teachers will benefit from the implementation of the table tennis program in eight educational institutions of the oil province, thanks to PETROPERU and its strategic alliance with the Mónica Liyau Association and the Local Education Management Unit (UGEL) Talara
The inauguration of this program was in charge of the former Olympic athlete Mónica Liyau, and the President of the Board of PETROPERU, James Atkins, and it was held at the "Alejandro Taboada" Polytechnic Educational Institution, where colorful delegations of the schools that will be part of this project. The ceremony was attended by the General Manager of the state company, Esteban Bertarelli, together with local authorities and representatives of institutions.
The program includes the training of 60 teachers to instruct students from seven to fourteen years of their respective schools, in order to use table tennis as a tool for the formation of values and the overall development of children and youth.
During one year, the program will be carried out in the following educational institutions: Domingo Savio, San Martín de Porres, Ignacio Merino, La Inmaculada, Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, Nuestra Señora de Lourdes, Alejandro Taboada and Federico Villarreal.
Atkins Lerggios stressed the importance of the implementation of this sport by the hand of the experts of ping pong, since it is a discipline that offers multiple benefits to those who practice it, such as the development of coordination and balance, promotion of the spirit of improvement, discipline, attention, concentration, memory, imagination, decision-making, socialization, among others.
"This support from PETROPERU to you and to Talara is part of the social responsibility activities associated with the construction of the New Refinery, whose execution continues and today has a 71% progress," he said during his participation and after highlighting the hard work social enterprise that the state enterprise performs for the sake of education.
The project includes the provision of educational-sports materials, awareness and mass of sports to students, comprehensive training of teachers, technical support to teachers with certification from the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and monitoring and identification of future sports talents during tournaments.
In the previous weeks, the implementation of two concrete tables has been carried out in each school, to which they have been provided with sports equipment for the practice of table tennis. Likewise, the coaches of the Monica Liyau Association have begun the training of the teaching staff.
"Impactando Vidas" has expanded to ten departments of the country and has the endorsement of the Peruvian Institute of Sports (IPD), being executed by specialists of the Monica Liyau Association, led by Monica Liyau, the greatest representatives of Table Tennis in the history of Peru, Olympic representative in Seoul 1988, Bolivarian National Champion, South American, Latin American, US Open, Pan American Medalist, Champion in the First Division of the Professional League of Sweden and Brazil with sporting laurels in the Official Category and Commander.
