Statement to the Public Opinion
At 06.50 am of today, August 9, 2016, there was a detonation inside a boiler of the Talara Refinery –during maneuvers for putting said boiler into service, which supplies vapor for the Gas Recovery Unit– causing a loud noise that caused alarm in the neighboring population. This event did not cause personal damages and does not represent any type of risk to the neighboring population.
PETROPERU immediately put into action the procedures of the Contingency Plan set up for such effect, taking the control measures that have allowed it to reestablish the safety levels with which PETROPERU normally works.
It must be pointed out that the gas recovery unit is already back in service and working with absolute normality, with vapor supply from other boiler in the Talara Refinery.
PETROPERU is investigating the causes of this operational emergency in order to take the corresponding corrective measures. Likewise, PETROPERU has self available to the authorities and the community of Talara as a whole, in order to timely and transparently communicate regarding this incident.
