Statement

PETROPERU informs the public of the situation of its operations in the Amazon, following the regrettable and repeated threats of measures of force and blockades of oil facilities, recently announced by a group of indigenous Federations:

  1. Today at 01:15 hours around 400 people armed with spears have taken Station 5 of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP).
  2. In a timely manner, PETROPERU has evacuated the personnel of the company and contractors given the imminent situation of tension and danger in the zone. In the Station there are surveillance personnel of our contractor, as well as two members of the PNP and FAP, who at the moment of the taking have had their cellphones taken.
  3. We regret that this measure involves cutting the power of this facility, in addition to the paralysis of operations that damage the operation of the ONP, the oil industry and the economy of the country.
  4. Faced with these serious facts, PETROPERU requests the urgent intervention of the authorities to restore social order, safeguard the integrity of the surrounding communities and safeguard the infrastructure of the North Peruvian Pipeline, as it is a critical national asset.
  5. Likewise, we reiterate our invocation to this group of people so that they can depose their measure of force and resume a respectful dialogue with the corresponding instances, within the framework of the law and the rule of law, for the benefit of the country.
