State-of-the-art technology and innovation at the New Talara Refinery
PETROPERÚ, in the third of the days that are part of its cycle of technical conferences, called Energy Talks, developed the topic "Innovation and technologies in the New Talara Refinery", a few months after the start of the start-up process of its operations.
In a live broadcast, through PETROPERÚ's Facebook Live, the Talara Refinery Manager, Jorge Alméstar Mauricio and Carlos López Risueño, Project Director of Técnicas Reunidas, the company in charge of the construction of the modern process units that are part of the refinery, exposed the high technology processes implemented in it. It should be noted that this work has been recognized as one of the best refining projects in the world, being nominated within the hydrocarbon processing awards, delivered by the specialized medium Hydrocarbon Processing.
Alméstar Mauricio revealed that this megaproject is in its final stretch, strictly complying with the protocols approved and established in the surveillance, prevention and control plans of COVID-19. Currently, he said, its construction process registers an advance of 95.48% and 6,600 people participate in it, with its maximum peak being the employment of 9,200 people.
"The construction of this work has required more than 190 thousand cubic meters of concrete, with the weight of the pipes being almost 35 thousand tons," said the official when revealing that the metal structure of the project is almost 50 thousand tons and the length of electrical cables exceeds five thousand kilometers. In addition, he said, the electrical energy that will be produced when entering into operations will be 100 megawatts.
For the PETROPERÚ official, the construction of the New Talara Refinery has been a real challenge, which included the participation of 100 companies -between contractors and subcontractors- from all over the world. “A work of these characteristics shows enormous complexity, given its importance and impact, taking into account that when it is completed it will not only allow the refining of 95 thousand barrels of crude oil per day, but it will also produce diesel, gasoline and liquefied petroleum gas with less sulfur content; converting gasoline from low to high octane, "he said.
Likewise, he stressed that this great infrastructure will make it possible to boost the economy, as it will generate an important local, regional and national economic movement, also allowing to continue ensuring the supply of fuels throughout the national territory.
For his part, Carlos López Risueño, Project Director of Técnicas Reunidas, said that his company, as a contractor company, was in charge of the construction of the process units, the new MU2 dock, the interconnection of buildings, patios and tanks. , all of them vital for the proper functioning of the modern refinery.
“The work that we develop with a large team, under international contract -in the engineering phase- has been the preparation and issuance of plans, the development of 3D models, the identification of risks in operations, the lists of items to be acquired in the project and the preparation of purchase orders ”, he specified while noting that Técnicas Reunidas has used 2.3 million hours on this megaproject.
López Risueño specified that, for Técnicas Reunidas, this work has been one of the most important projects worldwide, becoming an experience and a challenge
your participation. "The best of all is that the New Talara Refinery will have state-of-the-art equipment, acquired from leading companies in the market," he stressed.
This megaproject was declared of Public Necessity and National Interest, to ensure the preservation of air quality and public health with Law 30130. The investment in this work is carried out with PETROPERÚ's own resources and its financing has not required the endorsement of the Condition.
Energy Talks
The cycle of conferences called Energy Talks includes presentations on relevant topics in the management of PETROPERÚ and its main ongoing projects. It is in charge of its officials and experts from the energy and hydrocarbons sector, who participate as guests.
Each one-hour discussion will last once a month, until next November. As it will be recalled, the first two sessions addressed the issues of gender equality and equity, as well as the management of biodiversity and environmental sustainability in the hydrocarbons subsector.
