Petroperú, with the support of companies with experience in controlling spills in continental water bodies, is concentrating its efforts on containing and recovering the crude oil that was displaced by the Cuninico and Marañón rivers, due to an intentional cut in the pipeline of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP). On the other hand, it has also been coordinating with the communal authorities the solidarity delivery of food and water.

As part of the work that is being carried out, an additional 11 containment barriers have been installed, in addition to the 19 that were initially placed as part of the first response work in order to prevent crude oil from continuing to spread through the area. and generate greater impact.

The first response tasks will be complemented by the use of skimmer equipment, specialized for cleaning bodies of water. This equipment allows the spilled crude to be sucked up and then stored in special containers (fast tanks).

Meanwhile, the specialized company Corena is already in the event area to provide Petroperú with the necessary support in the oil containment work, to which other companies with experience in cleaning and environmental remediation of bodies of water will join. following the corresponding contracting procedures.

At the same time, to serve the population of the communities neighboring this environmental contingency in a supportive and preventive manner, the transfer of water and food by river and air continues, the same that are being collected in the Cuninico native community to proceed with the Delivery to registered families, in accordance with what is coordinated with the communal authorities.

It should be noted that food and water will be delivered, the same that will be carried out progressively. There are 422 boxes of water of 20 liters each and 272 food packs (oil, rice, sugar, noodles, cans of tuna) and additional shipments will be arriving in the next few hours, since deliveries will be weekly.

Likewise, the Loreto Regional Health Management will carry out water sampling on the banks of nine native communities, as well as the displacement of a medical brigade to carry out campaigns and deliver medicines during a thirteen-day tour of the communities.

As it is recalled, the recent oil leak at km 42+092, in the Urarinas district, Loreto region, was the product of an intentional cut of 21 centimeters, generated by third parties.

From December 2021 to date, the ONP has suffered 11 attacks with more than 46 intentional cuts, generating contingencies that have impacts on communities and the environment. All these attacks have been confirmed and are being investigated by the National Police of Peru and the Public Ministry.
