The Prosecutor of the Nation, Zoraida Ávalos Rivera and the President of the Board of Directors of PETROPERÚ, Carlos Paredes Lanatta, signed a framework agreement for institutional cooperation with the objective of strengthening the presence of the Public Ministry in the fiscal districts of the areas surrounding the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP).

The mutual collaboration agreement, signed between the Public Ministry and PETROPERÚ, commits both institutions to implement specialized prosecution and crime prevention offices, as well as legal medical units and expert services in the fiscal districts of the areas adjacent to the ONP.

Among the actions to be implemented, crime prevention work has also been contemplated in these areas, in accordance with the competences of both institutions that join efforts to establish joint intervention strategies.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of PETROPERU, Carlos Paredes, welcomed the signing of this institutional agreement that will last five years and that constitutes an important step to guarantee the security of the ONP, which during the last years has been subject to attacks, which In addition to generating damage to the infrastructure, they have caused negative impacts on the native communities and the environment.

"This, coupled with the modernization that PETROPERU has been undertaking through operational and structural improvements of the Pipeline, will allow for a safer and more efficient pipeline for the hydrocarbons industry in Peru," he said.

In turn, the Prosecutor of the Nation, Zoraida Ávalos, said she was convinced of the significance of this agreement for the benefit of both institutions, as well as the importance of prevention work to safeguard the Pipeline. In that regard, he said that this agreement will strengthen fiscal work in five regions of the country, where the Pipeline passes, which includes the Piura, Lambayeque, Cajamarca, Amazonas and Loreto regions. "It seeks to build a culture of peace," he said.
