Protests by fishermen's unions put fuel supply at risk

Members of the San Pedro de Talara Artisanal Fishermen's Guild have been protesting since Monday, February 3, at the entrances to the Talara Refinery, the Talara Sales Plant, and the Tablazo Tank Yard. These measures have hindered the entry and exit of workers and contractors, affecting fundamental guarantees such as freedom of movement and the right to work, both protected by the Peruvian Political Constitution.

The company regrets that this situation occurs after having honored all the commitments set forth in the minutes signed on January 7, 2025, with the representatives of the union and that have been fulfilled in accordance with the procedures established by the current legal framework and communicated in a timely manner in the meetings held.

Petroperú recalls that the Talara Refinery is a critical national asset and a key economic engine for the Piura region and the country. Any interruption in its operation has direct consequences on the supply of fuel, both locally and nationally, putting the continuity of essential activities at risk.

Petroperú urges the leaders of the San Pedro Artisanal Fishermen's Guild to respect the agreements reached, cease the demonstrations that violate fundamental rights and allow free transit, thus avoiding possible legal actions by the competent authorities. It also reaffirms its commitment to dialogue and the search for sustainable solutions, within a framework of mutual respect and social responsibility.
