Protesters in Condorcanqui maintain the impediments for Petroperú to contain the spill
Despite the urgent need to execute the tasks of repairing the pipe and containing the spill, the protesters in Condorcanqui do not allow the entry of Petroperú personnel and its contractors, thus preventing the corresponding tasks from being carried out, in order to safeguard the integrity of communities and the environment.
Meanwhile, Petroperú's operating personnel remain alert provided with the equipment and implements to carry out the first response tasks, with the objective of sealing the pipeline so that the crude oil stops flowing and placing the containment barriers in the impacted bodies of water to prevent their movement to other areas. In this sense, Petroperú keeps all dialogue channels open with the best willingness to find solutions that favor everyone and urges the protesters and community leaders to contribute to it.
As can be recalled, this event occurred after the acts of vandalism that have been recorded in that area since 01.14.2023, as well as the public threats to attack the pipeline. On 01.16.2023, a group of protesters set direct fire to the ONP pipeline in that same area, at kilometer 389 of Section II. All these actions have been reported by Petroperú to public opinion and to local, regional and national authorities.
Likewise, Petroperú informed of the event the supervisory entities such as the Agency for Environmental Assessment and Enforcement (OEFA) and the Supervisory Agency for Investment in Energy and Mining (Osinergmin), as well as the National Police of Peru and the Crime Prevention Prosecutor's Office.
In the same way, it reiterates its call to the leaders and protesters so that, in order to safeguard their own lives and those of the nearby communities, they withdraw from the industrial zone of this National Critical Asset.
