Protesters in Condorcanqui cut Pipeline and block entrance to the area
Yesterday, 01.18.2023, the alert of a new cut to the Norperuano Pipeline (ONP) in the Amazon region was received. According to the first reports, the event would have taken place at kilometer 390 of Section II, in the Condorcanqui province, in the Amazonas region.
This event has occurred in the midst of acts of vandalism that have been taking place in that area since 01.14.2023 and that Petroperú has reported to public opinion and local, regional and national authorities, informed of the danger to life and property. ambient. As recalled, on 01.16.2023 a group of protesters set direct fire to the ONP pipeline in that same area, at kilometer 389 of Section II.
Petroperú has immediately activated its Contingency Plan, but the protesters have not allowed the entry of the operating personnel to carry out the repair and containment work.
The event has been reported to supervisory entities such as the Agency for Environmental Assessment and Enforcement (OEFA) and Supervisory Agency for Investment in Energy and Mining (Osinergmin), as well as the National Police of Peru and the Crime Prevention Prosecutor's Office, to whom the respective supervision in the area has been requested to verify the impediment that is registered to attend to the contingency.
Petroperú denounces these serious events that endanger the lives of the nearby population and that could generate a major environmental catastrophe. Likewise, it requests the forces of order to take the corresponding actions to protect the ONP and identify those responsible. Similarly, it urges the protesters to withdraw from the industrial zone to safeguard their own lives and those of the nearby communities.
