Productive dialogue in Morona, Loreto

PETROPERU and the authorities and leaders of the district of Morona located in Loreto, had a productive dialogue that went through important agreements in the open and permanent communication framework between the company and the surrounding communities.

The meeting was held on April 28th at Puerto Algeria, located in the district of Morona and had the participation of the district’s Mayor, Benjamin Punki Zapau, the Governor, Melanie Carhuaza Pizango, representatives of the native communities and the managers of PETROPERU, the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Ministry of Culture and the National Office of Dialogue and Sustainability of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM).

During the meeting, they have agreed on the methods of the hiring of workers and the selection of companies in charge of the cleaning and the environmental recovery of the area, Likewise, PETROPERU compromises to repair the medical center and provide medication as well as a training on environmental monitors proposed by the communities.

In regard to the water wells, it was informed that the company has already built seven and that the remaining will be built in previos coordination with the native authorities. Moreover, as for the construction of fish farms, they are waiting for the technical report by the Peruvian Amazon Research Institute.

PETROPERU will continue fulfilling the compromises agreed with the native and local authorities in which will permit improve the life quality of the population and maintain a constant communication. Therein, another meeting has been arranged to evaluate the progress in two months.
