PRESS RELEASE No. 026-2020
PETROPERU addresses the public opinion to report the following:
- We regret the death of a worker of one of the subcontractors of the Cobra Sinohydro Consortium, main contractor of the Talara Refinery Modernization Project (PMRT), which occurred on August 1 in the city of Piura, due to the new coronavirus COVID-19.
- The worker carried out activities within the project, complying with all the established security protocols for admission, including the prior taking of the rapid COVID-19 test, with a NEGATIVE result.
- Subsequently, and according to the information provided by the subcontractor, the worker was under the modality of work permit as of 07/20/2020.
- On 07/25/2020, the worker reported to his employer that he had symptoms linked to COVID-19, this being confirmed with a discard test. As his health became complicated, on 07/31/2020 he was admitted to José Cayetano Heredia II Hospital, where unfortunately he could not overcome the disease.
- The contractor has reported that from the moment the worker reported symptoms, he has been in permanent communication with the family, supporting the employee's medical follow-up. Likewise, it states that it will continue with the implementation of the necessary actions in accordance with the established surveillance plans.
- The PMRT has a Plan for the Surveillance, Prevention and Control of COVID-19, approved by the Ministry of Health, which includes permanent medical surveillance, strict access and exit controls, body temperature measurement (through thermal cameras), personal hygiene procedures, cleaning and disinfection of means of transport, work environments, capacity reduction, social distancing, mandatory use of personal protective equipment, inspection and continuous verification of all these measures, among others.
