President of PETROPERU inaugurates two new tanks during work visit to Callao Plant

The president of PETROPERU's Board of Directors, James Atkins Lerggios, accompanied by the general manager, Esteban Bertarelli Bustamente, inaugurated today two new fuel storage tanks at the Callao Terminal; together with the general manager of Terminales del Perú, Franklin Muñoz. The act took place during a work visit made by senior officials of the state oil company to this important plant that sells gasoline, diesel and LPG for Lima, as well as Turbo Jet A1 fuel for commercial aviation.

The new tanks have a storage capacity of 90 thousand barrels of fuel, each; they are in operation with the corresponding permits and have optimized the storage capacity of the plant, going from 1’460,000 barrels to 1’640,000 barrels of capacity. Both tanks have a radar-type continuous measurement system to verify the hydrocarbon level inside them; as well as temperature sensors and high level alarms.

In addition, they have a "floating suction" system that allows the tanks to be dispatched in less time. Likewise, modern fire systems have been installed in the storage tanks. This is the second expansion that the company Terminales del Perú makes in this plant, as part of its investment plan established with PETROPERÚ; and represents a 50% optimization in the storage capacity of the plant with respect to what it had in 2014.

The Callao Terminal receives and serves between 200 and 250 daily tanker trucks. Given that its total area is 38 hectares, it has enormous growth potential. In this regard, there is a master plan to empower the plant that would store between 4 and 5 million barrels in the medium term. In addition, its location is strategic to be very close to the expansion area of the Jorge Chávez International Airport, which makes foresee that this industrial facility will become a privileged hub, both for loading and unloading of fuels.
