President of PETROPERU announces actions in the fight against corruption

In a speech addressed to all PETROPERU workers last Friday, December 13, the Chairman of the Board, Carlos Paredes Lanatta, announced the advances in the fight against corruption and measures to ensure transparency, the achievement of greater efficiency, the strengthening of assets and the sustainability of the Company.

In that regard, he pointed out that to date, there have already been letters of notice of dismissal to about 25 workers after a long process of investigation and documentation of events that should never have occurred. He was emphatic in pointing out that these people have had and will have the right to defense: "We are making sure that due process is followed and that the law is acted upon and with the impartiality that the case merits," he said.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of PETROPERU emphasized that this investigation is “arduous and unpleasant but cannot be postponed”, and that it is being carried out, in addition, for the respect that the vast majority of honest workers who constitute the Company deserve.

He said he was convinced that most of PETROPERU´s workers are honest and disciplined people, who love their company and are committed to it. However, he pointed out that it is also true that there is a small group of workers, at all levels, that PETROPERU and the country have not played fair: unfortunately, there have been unscrupulous people involved in various acts of corruption, ranging from counterfeit invoices to obtain per diem illegally, the signing of contracts with clear conflicts of interest, to systematic thefts of fuel and other products”.

He also said that biannual agreements have been reached with 11 of the company's 12 unions, a fact that he described as a milestone in the history of the institution. In fact, with this the meritocracy is being introduced in the Company, since an important part of the income that workers will receive from 2020 will reflect their individual performance.

Paredes Lanatta said he was a Peruvian who firmly believes in the value of the union institution. “Unions are an important instrument of cohesion and social progress. At PETROPERU, we need strong and transparent unions, as they have an important role to play. We need to join forces and, based on transparency, work for a better future.

Finally, he invoked workers to be supportive of Talara, the emblematic city of the Peruvian oil industry. "We are committed to the welfare of the people of Talara and will continue to be," he concluded.
