PETROPERU withdraws its workers from the area affected by attack on the Pipeline

PETROPERU regrets to inform that yesterday afternoon it withdrew its workers from the area affected by an attack on the North Branch of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ORN) that occurred on June 18, to safeguard their safety and integrity, after authorities and residents of the community of Jerusalen and Nuevo Progreso, in the district of Manseriche, illegally retained and physically attacked a commission of representatives of the PCM, the company and the National Police.

Part of this Commission, also composed of the sub-prefect of Manseriche, was attacked by a group of approximately 60 settlers from Jerusalen, as stated in the police verification record, which is attached.

This unfortunate fact occurred during an inspection that said commission made to the containment barriers installed in the Saramiriza creek, since they would have been deliberately removed by unauthorized persons, thus generating the oil to continue to expand and could impact the Marañon river.

Despite the efforts of PETROPERU to control the situation through dialogue, the population continues to prevent the reinforcement of oil containment and recovery actions, conditioning them to comply with their demands.

Among them is the hiring of a local company and the payment of high wages; what contravenes the policy of the company.

For the foregoing, PETROPERU continues to coordinate with the Ministry of the Interior and the Public Prosecutor's Office to obtain the guarantees of the case, restore order and social peace and thereby safeguard the environment and the surrounding communities.

Likewise, PETROPERU calls on the inhabitants - for the benefit of their own health and safety - to depose their measures of strength and resume the dialogue in order to restore the environment to their usual conditions in the shortest possible time.
