PETROPERU will put in operation new double-hulled barge in Iquitos
The double-hulled barge "Rio Tahuayo", with capacity for 8 thousand barrels (MB), was launched on the Nanay River on Thursday, May 10, from the shipyards of the Industrial Service of the Iquitos Marina (SIMAI), company in charge of the construction of a total of 12 barges with capacities of 8 and 20 MB.
This is the fifth boat of those comissioned to SIMAI. The first barges received in 2018 were "Río Putumayo" and "Río Yarapa" of 8 MB each; while this year, in February, the barges "Río Pisqui", of 8 MB and "Lagunas", of 20 MB capacity, were received.
The current regulations seek to optimize the security of fuel transport, therefore PETROPERU will soon add the new barge - "Río Tahuayo" - to the fleet of ships that can transport fuels through the rivers of the jungle. In this way, the Company contributes to substantially improve the safety of transportation of fuels in the rivers of the Peruvian Amazon, with the incorporation of these ships with double steel hulls.
The launching of "Río Tahuayo" was developed with the presence of Mr. Esteban Bertarelli Bustamante, General Manager of PETROPERU, the Sub-Manager Refinación Selva, Mr. Oscar Vera Gargurevich, and Company officials. On behalf of the Navy, Vice Admiral Manuel Vascones Morey, Chief of the General Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Federico Bravo de Rueda Delgado, Executive Director of SIMA Peru S.A. and other high naval officers were present.
At present, 3 barges of 8 MB and 4 of 20 MB are under construction, within the framework of the Quality, Environment, Safety and Health Management Policies of PETROPERU. It is important to note that the Bureau Veritas company verifies compliance with the international manufacturing standards of these double hull barges.
