- Specialized personnel is already in the area, to verify on-site the origin of the incident.
PETROPERU began the application of its Contingency Plan for the timely repair of an incident occurred at Km 323 of the North Peruvian Pipeline - ONP, near the Santa Rosa community, Manseriche district, Datem del Marañón province, Loreto, on Tuesday, January 1. The activity has been hampered by the rains and the temporary blockade of the road, according to Beatriz Alva Hart, Corporate Manager of Social Management and Communications of PETROPERU.
The cause of this incident is under investigation, and the amount of oil spilled cannot yet be determined. Both the Agency for Environmental Assessment and Control (OEFA) and the Supervisory Body for Investment in Energy and Mining (OSINERGMIN) were notified to supervise the tasks of repair and subsequent cleaning and remediation. The official informed that OEFA inspects the site and has already taken samples of water and soil, while OSINERGMIN will go into the area today.
Within the framework of the Contingency Plan, non-perishable food and drinking water will be delivered to the population of the place, for which the respective registration has begun. Alva Hart said that the purchase of food and water for the area has been activated. "It must be clear: the population will not be left unattended and will have water and food until such a time as is determined in the evaluation of water quality," he said.
For this, PETROPERU is calling on both the General Directorate of Environmental Health (DIGESA), and the Regional Health Directorate (DIRESA), to come to the area and conduct monitoring and evaluation of the quality of water that is consumed by the residents.
