PETROPERU will build double hull tank-barges at the SIMA Iquitos (Marine Industrial Services)

At the framework of PETROPERU’s administration of quality, environment, security and health, the company has signed a contract with the Marine Industrial Services (SIMA) to build 12 double hull tank-barges to transport hydrocarbon in the Amazon rivers.

The contract was signed today May 23th at Casa Morey during a ceremony led by German Velasquez Salazar, Board Director of PETROPERU and Silvio Alava Villamon, Board Director of SIMA Peru. The contract was signed by Esteban Bertarelli Bustamante, the refining Manager and Luis Alberto Diaz Ramirez, Manager of SIMA Iquitos.

The construction of the double hull tank-barges is necessary to improve the security of oil transport in the Amazon, for the purpose of the preservation of the environment.

Therein, PETROPERU has required the services of SIMA Iquitos for the construction of the 12 double hull tank-barges where 5 have a capacity of 20 thousand barrels and 7 of 8 thousand barrels. The total cost is 25,665,253.88 million dollars with a duration of approximately 2 years.

In 2013, the company had started their plans on adapting their simple hull tank-barges to double hull tank-barges. However, the technical required standards said that the characteristics of theses ships weren't adequate for the adaptations. For this reason, the company decided to invest on the being of the new double hull tank-barges to improve the security of the oil.

PETROPERU manages its activities by assuring the quality and competitiveness of the products and services to satisfy the needs of their clients; by protecting the environment, physical integrity, health and the life quality of their workers, collaborators and population in general. Likewise, they strengthen the communication with the native communities by doing their activities in a sustainable way.
