Petroperú urges the residents of Santa María de Nieva to avoid actions that risk their integrity

Petroperú urged the residents of the town of Santa María de Nieva, in the province of Condorcanqui, Amazonas, to remain calm and avoid violent actions that threaten the infrastructure of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), putting its integrity and safety at risk. the neighboring towns.

This invocation comes after learning that a group of residents gathered around the valve, located at kilometer 372 of the reserve area of Section II of the ONP, from where they threatened to set fire to said infrastructure for considering alleged impediments by Petroperú to the development of its drinking water project.

In this sense, Petroperú reaffirmed that it is not opposed to the execution of this and other projects for the benefit of the population, however, it reiterated that for safety these must be developed - in accordance with the current regulatory framework - outside the reserve zone of the ONP, considered high risk.

Likewise, Petroperú stated that it does not have the authority or legal powers to grant permits for the validation and execution of sanitation projects, for which it urged local authorities to lead spaces for dialogue with the inhabitants and the competent State agencies to maintain social peace and evaluate alternatives for the safe execution of the drinking water project that they have been demanding.

It is worth mentioning that the ONP reserve zone is an area protected by Decree Law 22180, among other regulations, constituted by the land included within a 75-meter-wide strip on both sides of the pipeline, with the purpose that the activities of hydrocarbons transport through the ONP, considered a Critical National Asset, are carried out safely and without risk to the surrounding populations.
