PETROPERU urges the population of Santa María de Nieva to cease the force measures and talk with competent authorities regarding the sanitation project

PETROPERÚ requests the population, local authorities and leaders of grassroots organizations in the district of Santa María de Nieva, in the province of Condorcanqui, Amazonas region, who today have blocked an area of the Nieva-Bagua highway, as part of a protest for the approval of a drinking water project, that they cease their measure of force in a peaceful manner.

PETROPERÚ, as a State company, complies with the regulatory framework and does not have the authority or legal powers to grant permits for the validation or execution of any sanitation project.

For this reason, it reiterates to the local and municipal authorities its call to maintain tranquility without threatening the health and physical integrity of workers and citizens, nor against the infrastructure of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), considered a critical national asset, and rather open the way to a dialogue with the relevant authorities to reach an agreement for the benefit of all.

Meanwhile, in order to guarantee the physical integrity of the workers, PETROPERÚ will evacuate the personnel who were carrying out cleaning and remediation work at the site of kilometer 373 of Section II of the ONP, where an intentional cut of the pipeline occurred last December; an unwanted situation that increases the environmental risk of the place due to circumstances beyond our responsibility.

PETROPERÚ requests the presence of the corresponding authorities and institutions to find a resolution to this protest, while safeguarding the safety of the inhabitants and the quality of the ecosystems.
