PETROPERÚ urges that dialogue be maintained in the face of the threat of seizure of Station 1
PETROPERÚ reaches out to the public opinion to report the following:
- Today 11/13/2021, we received a communication from the Saramuro community, neighboring Station 1 of the North Peruvian Pipeline - ONP, where we are given a peremptory 72-hour period to vacate our facilities, considering that the State is not responding to their social demands.
- As is known, crude oil transportation activities through the ONP have been paralyzed since October 4, when native inhabitants, gathered in the organizations PAAP (Peoples affected by the Petroleum Industry and FENARA (Awajún Native Federation of the Apaga River), took control of Station 5 of the ONP.
- Consequently, this new threat exacerbates the situation, not only of the ONP, but of the entire oil industry, which will be paralyzed by not being able to receive oil from private operators or transport it.
- If the industry is paralyzed, the damage is for all Peruvians when they lose the economic resources that contribute to the regional and local governments to fulfill their functions in favor of the development of the communities.
- Faced with this serious situation, PETROPERÚ invokes the parties to favor dialogue, which should not be lost among Peruvians.
- We urge the residents and their leaders to desist from their measure of force as soon as possible, which allows to recover the sustainability of the hydrocarbon transport operations through the ONP, considered a critical national asset.
