Petroperú urges protesters to peacefully leave its facilities
The group of teachers and residents of the district of Manseriche (Loreto), who have occupied Station 5 of the North Peruvian Oil Pipeline (ONP), yesterday, recklessly set fire to the external area of these industrial facilities, as part of their protests to demand that the State comply with the commitments of the Education sector. Fortunately, this incident was controlled, without causing material damage or injuries.
There are approximately 30 people who, since August 19 and despite the efforts of the authorities to maintain a fruitful dialogue, have prevented the normal operation of Station 5, since from their arrival they forced the electric generator to be turned off, leaving the station without power and restricting the water supply; putting at risk the food and health of the Petroperú and contractors staff and also affecting nearby towns.
These actions also create a critical risk scenario due to the presence of highly flammable substances in the tanks and pipes of the industrial zone of Station 5, which - if they come into contact with a heat source - could lead to large-scale explosions and fires with regrettable consequences for the environment and people's health.
Once again, Petroperú urges the protesters to maintain their willingness to dialogue and to peacefully withdraw from Station 5, to avoid risks to their safety and that of the population.
