PETROPERU took care of a child affected by oil spilt

PETROPERU took care of the medical assistance of a a child from the community of Nazareth located in the district of Chiriaco, Amazon for having contact with the crude oil spilt at the 440 KM of the Peruvian Oil Pipeline. The child was transfer to the city of Piura where the branch of the Administrative Management of the company is located.

PETROPERU had contacted the parents of the 12 year old before proceeding on the medical  assistance. Although at the beginning it was said for the boy to be transferred to Lima, his family requested the assistance to be in Piura.

Javier Cuñachimi, father of the minor, had accepted the transfer of his child before the judge Juez de Paz. The boy, who is travelling with his aunt Loida Cañap Ankuas, will be assisted in a clinic in Piura where he will be put into a general medical examination for then, to be treated on the specific complaints. PETROPERU will take full responsibility of the medical expenses.

Likewise, the company had sent medical detachment to treat the minors and adults of the surrounding affected areas, as part of the preplanned social formative of the Contingency Plan of the company.

Finally, PETROPERU has started an investigation process to determine if underage workers have been hired, if that’s the case, the company will proceed to fine the authorities involved because it is against the regulation of the company.
