Petroperú takes the first step in the use of renewable energy
Petroperú, as part of its strategic transformation, begins a new stage in the renewable energy market with the execution of a project that confirms the wind potential in the Bayóvar Terminal of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), whose objective is the implementation of an energy plant that will be connected to the network of the National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN) for the sale of this type of energy and to meet the demand of the area and other clients.
In this sense, Petroperú begins, together with the company Barlovento Renovables Latinoamérica, a specialist in the field, the project to measure the speed and direction of the wind to define the wind potential and the viability of the future energy plant. This work will be carried out for one year at the Bayóvar Terminal, complying with the international standards IEC 61400 “Wind Energy Generation Systems” and “Power Performance Measurements of Electricity Producing Wind Turbines”.
Field work began with the installation of a tower and measuring instruments. In March the wind measurement will be carried out for 12 months. Subsequently, with all the information, the preliminary design of the wind power plant and the feasibility of the project at a conceptual level will be developed.
Wind energy converts an inexhaustible resource like wind into electricity, thus achieving a clean, efficient and safe supply. With the execution of this project, Petroperú begins a transformation towards renewable energies, contemplated in its ESG Plan (Environmental, Social and Governance) and the global trend of hydrocarbon companies that seek responsible management of the environment and in harmony with their surroundings.
