PETROPERU suspends operations in Station 1 due to pressure by Saramuro residents
- The urgent intervention of the corresponding authorities has been requested
On Friday, October 11, at approximately 11:00 p.m., residents of Saramuro, led by Mr. Alex Huayllahua, president of the Saramuro Defense Front (FREDESA), appeared at the facilities of PETROPERU Station 1 and demanded the immediate suspension of the activities of reception and dispatch of crude, giving a period of seven hours for the workers to withdraw from the facilities, which were surrounded by the inhabitants.
Faced with this situation, PETROPERU immediately activated its Social Commotion Plan, proceeding to suspend all activity at the Station and evacuating its personnel. Likewise, the National Police and the Prosecutor's Office were notified for the corresponding actions.
It should be clarified that the causes of this unfortunate measure respond to pending negotiations with the community by third parties, a situation completely unrelated to PETROPERÚ.
PETROPERU regrets that its facilities are used again and operations are paralyzed by events that are not linked to its actions, harming both the native communities and the Loreto region, as well as the company and the country.
Therefore, the urgent intervention of the authorities has been requested to restore public tranquility and protect the ONP infrastructure, as it is a national critical asset.
Finally, we reiterate our invocation to this group of residents of Saramuro to depose their measure of force and resume a respectful dialogue with the corresponding instances, within the framework of the law and the rule of law, for the benefit of the country.
