PETROPERU supports artesanal fishing projects in Talara

PETROPERU, within the framework of its Social Responsibility Policy, supported the presentation of four subprojects in Artisanal Fishing, in the contest of the National Program of Innovation in Fishing and Aquaculture (PNIPA), which seeks to renew the model of competitive development of both activities, promoting its development through innovative ideas.

These projects will have a social investment in favor of the Craft of Artisanal Fishermen of Talara, of up to S/. 380,790.00, for an execution period of six months. The state oil company participates - as a Collaborating Entity - with a contribution of 20% of the budget of each project that is declared a winner. 80% of the remaining budget will come from funds belonging to the World Bank, through the PNIPA.

On June 8, the PNIPA published the results of its evaluation, with favorable results for three of the four subprojects presented, which are:

  • "Sensitization of the artisanal fishermen of the Province of Talara (Pariñas) about the need and importance of working as associates and of commercial assistance to set up enterprises in the fishing sector".
  • "Improvement of the extraction process of artisanal fishermen from Talara (Pariñas) through the adoption and application of knowledge of safe fishing - safety on board".
  • "Improvement of the processes of extraction and commercialization of hydrobiological resources of the artisanal fishermen of the Province of Talara (Pariñas) through the application of innovations in cold systems".

It should be noted that there are three thousand artisanal fishermen of Pariñas, of whom 1,279 are engaged in artisanal fishing in sailing boats, which are registered in the San Pedro Guild, District of Pariñas.

This way, PETROPERU consolidates its support in those areas where it maintains its operations and reinforces relations of mutual respect and constant work with its stakeholders; in this case, Talara.
