Petroperú successfully conducted a natural gas leak simulation
Petroperú successfully carried out a natural gas leak simulation in the district of San Antonio in Moquegua, with the aim of demonstrating the response times of the company's emergency crew to real events on public roads. The premise was a break in a 25-millimeter ring network due to mechanical action by a third party, who was opening a trench for the installation of drinking water near his home.
This activity was attended by personnel from Fire Station 201 in San Antonio, police personnel from the local police station and officials from the Energy and Mining Investment Supervisory Agency (Osinergmin) in its capacity as the supervisory body for this public service. Also, the participation of the neighbors of the area was counted on, who contacted the emergency lines 1808 (natural gas), 116 (firefighters) and 105 (police).
This drill has raised awareness among the population about prevention, reporting and proper management of natural gas incidents, especially among customers and neighbors close to the company's underground networks, emphasizing the use of emergency channels to obtain timely attention in any situation that may arise.
In this way, Petroperú continues to carry out prevention activities with the population in its areas of influence to improve preparation for emergency situations in the natural gas distribution system in the southwestern regions of Peru.
How to identify a natural gas leak?
Natural gas leaks in homes or on public roads can be recognized by a strong characteristic smell or a constant whistling sound. In this situation, it is recommended to keep a safe distance and immediately call the emergency number 1808. In the event of a leak inside the home, it is essential to turn off the gas valve and open the windows to ventilate the environment.
