PETROPERU strengthens its containment and recovering systems of hydrocarbon that caused a spilt in the Chiriaco area

January 25th, in Chiriaco, Bagua - Amazon region, there was a damage caused by a ground displacement at the 441 KM of the Peruvian Oil Pipeline. The location is a steep slope area, humid and tends to retain rain water as a consequence it has originated earth movements that had affected the pipe.

Immediately , PETROPERU started on its Contingency Plan to control the spilt by gathering qualified and technical expertise workers, equipments and machinery with which had repaired the damage and started the recovering of the affected area. This process demands a careful work because of the topographic characteristics of the area and the harsh climate conditions.

Hydrocarbon is now protected by containment barriers located on the top part of the Inaya. On February 9th, a heavy rain has threaten the stability of the containment systems. However, thanks to the quick reactions of PETROPERU’s qualified workers and the workers from the community, they were able to control the situation and restrengthen the installed systems. Currently, they continue working on preventive inspection on the water stream of the area.

PETROPERU continues working hard on the cleaning tasks and the recovering of the crude oil with the workers from the community, previously arranged with their authorities. A recognisable laboratory has been monitoring the water and the ground.

PETROPERU ratifies its compromise with the preservation of the environment and is working a 24 hour shift to repair and restore the incident in a short time period.
