PETROPERU starts cleanup of 40 critical points in the city of Talara

An intense work of solid waste cleaning in 40 critical points of the city of Talara was initiated by PETROPERU, in coordination with the Provincial Municipality of Talara. These solid waste accumulation points were previously identified following the recommendations of the Ministry of Environment, an entity that reviewed the diagnosis prepared by PETROPERU in the framework of the project "Support to the Provincial Municipality of Talara in the Management of Solid Waste of the City"; on the basis of which these works are launched.

This was announced by the General Manager of PETROPERU, Carlos Barrientos Gonzales, together with the provincial Mayor of Talara, José Vitonera Infante, during the launch ceremony of this project that aims to make Talara a clean city for its neighbors and attractive for tourism.

The work will begin on October 23 with selected Talara personnel in a transparent and coordinated process with the neighborhood boards of Cercado, North Cone, South Cone and Satellite City. In total, 1,200 temporary jobs will be generated, hiring 200 cleaning promoters under a bi-monthly rotation system for one year.

This project also includes the formalization of recyclers and an awareness campaign on the importance of the correct management of solid waste and the proper development of economic activities.

As part of the project implementation, containers will be delivered to the Provincial Municipality of Talara for the temporary collection of waste generated in the critical areas identified in advance.

Barrientos Gonzales said that PETROPERÚ has also been working on the implementation of another project that seeks to boost tourism, as an alternative economic source, generating development possibilities and with a direct impact on the quality of life of the people of Talara locals.

Both projects are executed within the framework of the Local Development Support Program of the Community Relations Plan of the Environmental Impact Study of the Talara Refinery Modernization Project; aligned with the Social Management Plan of the Company.
