PETROPERU signs agreement with FONDEPES to support aquaculture projects in the Amazon

PETROPERU signed an agreement with the National Fisheries Development Fund (FONDEPES) to provide professional technical support in the development of aquaculture projects that benefit neighboring communities in their areas of operation in two districts of Loreto. The agreement was signed on April 3 by Maria Isabel Castro Silvestre, Head of FONDEPES and Beatriz Alva Hart, Corporate Manager of Social Management and Communications of PETROPERU.

The main objective of the agreement is to integrate efforts and establish cooperation conditions between the two entities in order to establish and implement a water resources assessment program to promote aquaculture specifically in the Urarinas districts - in the Marañón river basin, which includes communities of San Antonio, 6 de Mayo, Cuninico, Maypuco, Urarinas, San Pedro and San Francisco - and in the district of Datem del Marañón - in the Morona river basin, which includes the Mayuriaga and Vista Alegre zones.

PETROPERU will coordinate and promote the participation of native communities and involved populations, prioritize the areas of intervention, participate in the design and execution of the work plan for the evaluation of water resources, assume the costs of the various activities to be developed; as well as support with the logistics and transportation of the personnel of FONDEPES when required for the fulfillment of the activities of the program.

On its part, FONDEPES will provide technical advice on issues of promotion and comprehensive and sustained development of aquaculture in the aforementioned communities, and propose a program for the evaluation of resources for aquaculture purposes, in coordination with the state oil company; it will also provide the required professionals and prepare the necessary technical reports, with the corresponding recommendations.

The signing of this agreement is part of the efforts of PETROPERU to support the progress and development of the native communities neighboring its operations, within the framework of its social responsibility policy, as well as the commitments assumed with communities adjacent to the Northern Pipeline. Peruvian (ONP). The goal is to strengthen trust relationships and establish a sustainable partnership with the communities of the Amazon.
