PETROPERÚ requests that the North Peruvian Pipeline be declared in a state of emergency after being the victim of 25 attacks in the last few hours
PETROPERÚ addresses the public opinion to inform the following:
- In an unprecedented attack, PETROPERÚ Maintenance personnel confirmed this afternoon the existence of 25 intentional cuts in the pipeline of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), at kilometer 67 of Section I. The multiple cuts are located in the jurisdiction of the Monterrico community, Urarinas district, Loreto Region and are added to the six provoked since 12.31.2021.
- Given the detected environmental emergency, the Contingency Plan was immediately activated, proceeding to plug the pipe, as part of the first response actions. The oil leak has been contained in the pipeline's containment channel.
- Given this serious situation, PETROPERÚ requests that the North Peruvian Pipeline be declared in a state of emergency, as it has been the object of these criminal acts that threaten the infrastructure of a National Critical Asset of great importance for the development of the country, endangering the environment and the native communities.
- This measure will guarantee the safety of the activities of containment, control, cleaning and remediation of the environmental emergency caused; as well as safeguarding the well-being of the communities and restoring the operating conditions of the ONP for the transportation of hydrocarbons that value the oil from the northern jungle of the country.
- Likewise, PETROPERÚ proceeded to inform the supervisory bodies such as OEFA and OSINERGMIN, as well as to file complaints with the Public Ministry. It should be mentioned that the activity of section I of the ONP has been paralyzed since February 13, 2022.
- PETROPERÚ urges the authorities and security forces to reinforce the security of the North Peruvian Pipeline, as it is a National Critical Asset, to contribute to its operation as soon as possible for the benefit of the country's development.
