Petroperú reports perforation in the pipe of the North Peruvian Pipeline

With the placement of a bolted clip, Petroperú managed to control a crude oil leak caused by a perforation made with a mechanical tool by third parties to the pipeline at kilometer 355+259 of Section II of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), located in the Nieva district, Condorcanqui province, Amazonas region.

With this unfortunate fact, recorded on the 4th of this month, there have been nine attacks on the ONP so far this year. Recently, on August 31, another attack was recorded at kilometer 24+32 of Section I, in the Urarinas district, Loreto province and region, an event that was also controlled with the placement of a metal clip.

The company immediately activated its Contingency Plan to deploy personnel, equipment, and placement of containment barriers in the area. In addition, the competent entities such as the Supervisory Agency for Investment in Energy and Mining (Osinergmin) and the Environmental Assessment and Enforcement Agency (OEFA) have been informed in a timely manner.

It should be noted that during 2022, 14 contingencies caused by third-party events were registered in the ONP, of which 12 occurred in Section I and 2 in Section II. So far in 2023, nine contingencies caused by third-party events have been registered, of which seven have occurred in Section II and two in Section I.

Petroperú requests the Public Ministry and the National Police of Peru to carry out the appropriate procedures that lead to the identification of those responsible for these attacks that impact the environment and put the health of neighboring communities at risk. Likewise, it calls for the protection of this Critical National Asset whose mission is to transport the crude oil extracted in the jungle to the coast, contributing to the development of the country.
