PETROPERÚ reports new intentional cut to the North Peruvian Pipeline

PETROPERÚ regrets to inform the public of the following:

  1. On Tuesday, May 3, 2022, a fourth cut caused to the pipe of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP) was confirmed so far this year, at kilometer 184 of Section I, San Juan de Mojarayacu, district of Barranca, Datem del Marañón province, in the Loreto region.
  2. The alert occurred when the ONP SCADA system detected a drop in the pressure of the operation, immediately activating the Contingency Plan and directing the land patrol towards that area. It should be noted that the scheduled land patrol in Section I had been running since 04.27.2022.
  3. The patrol personnel verified the oil leak and according to the recorded characteristics, this event is compatible with an intentional cut to the pipeline, caused by third parties. It is worth mentioning that Section I has had its operations paralyzed since 02.13.2022.
  4. The operational and maintenance personnel who were transferred to the contingency site, contained the leak by placing a metal clip in the pipe and carried out first response tasks.
  5. This cut is added to those caused in kilometers 59, 20 and 24 of Section I of the ONP in the Loreto region during the current year. Meanwhile, on 12.31.2021 another cut was caused at kilometer 373 of Section II, in the Amazon region.
  6. PETROPERÚ, in compliance with legal procedures, informed the auditing and supervisory authorities such as OEFA and OSINERGMIN. Likewise, it carried out the corresponding legal actions and the participation of the prosecution for the corresponding investigations of this criminal act.
  7. The company urges the authorities and law enforcement agencies to initiate investigations as soon as possible to identify those responsible, as well as guarantee the safety of containment, control, cleaning and remediation activities in this contingency. Similarly, it strongly rejects these acts perpetrated by unscrupulous people who threaten the infrastructure of a critical national asset of great importance for the development of the country, the environment and the native communities of our Amazon.
