PETROPERU reports new attack on km 401 of the North Peruvian Pipeline
PETROPERU patrol personnel detected a new attack on North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP) this morning, this time at Km 401 of Section II of the same, in the Amazon region.
The company immediately activated its Contingency Plan and has managed to control the oil leak. The company's technical team was able to identify a cut of approximately 25 cm in length. In addition to repairing the affected area of the pipeline, protective barriers have been placed in a nearby ravine to stop the flow of oil to the Wawico River. It should be noted that the pumping in Section II of the ONP was suspended.
In parallel, PETROPERU is notifying the supervisory and supervisory bodies, the National Police and the Public Ministry.
PETROPERU will continue to report on the evolution of the situation and will carry out the repair, containment, collection of crude oil, cleaning and corresponding environmental remediation.
Preliminarily, the facts detected would indicate that there has been a cut by third parties, this being the third act of this nature against the ONP so far this year, highlighting the vulnerability of this national critical asset. In that sense, PETROPERU reiterates the importance of having it protected by law enforcement, as provided by the current legislation.
