Petroperú reports contingency in the North Peruvian Pipeline in Amazonas
After becoming aware of the presence of crude oil at kilometer 395 of Section II of the North Peruvian Oil Pipeline (ONP), located in the district of Nieva, province of Condorcanqui, Amazonas region, Petroperú activated its contingency plan and proceeded to close the valves located at kilometers 371 and 406.
Likewise, operations and maintenance personnel were mobilized, who installed containment barriers preventively at the mouth of the Suwants ravine, near the contingency area, to prevent possible expansion.
Petroperú has been maintaining constant dialogue with the authorities of the Nueva Esperanza community to carry out the cleaning and recovery work in the shortest time possible. The cause of this contingency has not yet been determined.
Likewise, the company has coordinated the guard service at the site and has been informing the corresponding entities of this fact so that security measures can be taken.
It is important to note that Section II of the ONP has been on a scheduled shutdown since December 29, 2023 due to low crude oil inventories at Station 5.
