PETROPERÚ reports a new attack on the North Peruvian Pipeline
PETROPERÚ addresses the public opinion to report the following:
1. On the night of Thursday, January 20, 2022, there was knowledge of a crude oil leak in the North Peruvian Pipeline - ONP, at km 59+131 of Section I, in the Urarinas district, of the Loreto province and region. At the scene of the events, at 02:30 a.m. today, January 21, PETROPERÚ patrol personnel verified that the oil leak was caused by an intentional cut, becoming a new attack on the ONP in under a month. This action constitutes a criminal act with subordinate interests, caused by unscrupulous people who only seek to harm the first national company.
2. As part of the contingency plan, PETROPERÚ proceeded to paralyze the pumping of Section I of the ONP, which had been in activity since January 8. With this, the crude returned to the tanks of Station 1, to relieve pressure in the sector. The valves were also closed, with which the oil stopped leaking and the contingency area was isolated.
3. Likewise, the mobilization of PETROPERÚ personnel and contractors to the area for hydrocarbon verification, containment and control activities was arranged.
4. PETROPERÚ, in compliance with legal procedures, will inform the supervisory authorities such as OEFA and OSINERGMIN about what is found in the field, within the established deadlines. Likewise, it is processing the complaint before the Maypuco police station and the participation of the prosecution for the corresponding investigations of this attack.
PETROPERÚ vigorously rejects these acts perpetrated by unscrupulous people who attack the infrastructure of a critical national asset of great importance for the development of the country, the environment and the native communities of our Amazon.
6. We invoke the immediate participation of the Law Enforcement Forces and the Authorities to guarantee the security of the containment, control, cleaning and remediation activities of this contingency. This intervention is very necessary in order to safeguard the well-being of the communities and restore the operating conditions for the transportation of hydrocarbons through the ONP, which gives value to the crude oil from the northern jungle of the country.
