Petroperú rejects the acts of violence recorded at the Talara Refinery

Petroperú categorically rejects the acts of violence that occurred on Thursday, February 13, 2025, outside the Talara Refinery, where a small group of protesters threw stones at the infrastructure, causing material damage and endangering the safety of workers, contractors and the facility itself, considered a National Critical Asset. In light of these events, the Peruvian National Police (PNP) had to intervene to restore order and guarantee the safety of people.

The company calls on the leaders of the Talara fishermen's union to cease all violent actions or coercive measures. These protests affect the operational continuity of the refinery, compromise the supply of fuel nationwide and generate a negative impact on the economy of the region. It should be noted that Petroperú has held meetings with representatives of the Artisanal Fishermen's Guild of San Pedro (Pariñas), the population of the district of Lobitos, the Artisanal Fishermen's Guild of San Pablo (La Brea – Negritos) and the Artisanal Fishermen's Guild of Cabo Blanco (El Alto), reaching agreements that are being fulfilled within the framework of its Community Relations Plan.

Also, in compliance with Supreme Decree No. 081-2007-EM, the company has been carrying out a compensation process for property damages caused to the fishermen affected by the event, after evaluation by an accredited expert. These measures have been duly reported to the Supervisory Body for Investment in Energy and Mining - Osinergmin. Regarding compensation for non-property damages, Petroperú reiterates that such claims must be managed through the established legal channels.

The company reaffirms its commitment to transparency and will continue to report on the progress of environmental monitoring at Las Capullanas beach and surrounding areas. These actions are carried out in strict compliance with current regulations and under the supervision of the regulatory bodies, which have been monitoring the measures adopted by Petroperú since the beginning of the emergency.
