Petroperú reiterates that it has been fulfilling commitments made with native communities

Regarding the information that is being shared in the media, about an alleged breach of the commitments assumed by Petroperú with the native communities, the company specifies the following:

  1. In compliance with the agreement signed with the Awajún del Río Apaga Native Federation (FENARA) and the Organization of Indigenous and Peasant Peoples of Alto Marañón (ORPICAM), Petroperú has been holding meetings with the leaders of both organizations in order to gather information technique required for the construction of two community premises in the Nueva Alegría and Atahualpa communities. Mr. Ismael Pérez Petsa also participated in these meetings, together with the apus of both communities and project advisors.
  2. As part of these coordinations with the aforementioned organizations, Petroperú has requested a technical visit to the communities for September 3 and 4, without receiving a response from FENARA and ORPICAM to date. In this sense, the company reaffirms that it is complying with the commitments assumed with both institutions, which, in accordance with the framework and specific agreements signed, would be carried out within a period of two years.
  3. Likewise, it rejects the affirmations of Mr. Ismael Pérez, clarifying that at no time has Petroperú held any individual responsible for the latest attacks on the Norperuano Pipeline (ONP). Regarding these actions, it has been the Prosecutor's Office and the National Police who have verified that the nine cuts produced to the pipeline, from December 31, 2021 to date, have been caused by the action of third parties.
  4. Similarly, the company categorically rules out that these outages have been caused by the Petroperú workers themselves, as the aforementioned leader points out, since there is no evidence and it has not been proven in the investigations carried out by the competent authorities.
  5. Petroperú has dealt with all events produced immediately in accordance with its Contingency Plan, in compliance with regulations and following the best industry standards, deploying operational, environmental and social actions. Likewise, it specifies that the spilled crude, product of these acts of third parties, has been confined in the ONP flotation channel, which is an industrial zone built for this purpose.

Petroperú reiterates its commitment to the indigenous communities neighboring the ONP, a critical national asset that contributes to the country's development, transporting crude oil from oil lots in the Peruvian jungle.
