PETROPERÚ receives two double hull barges in Iquitos
The double hull barges “Río Urubamba” and “Río Ampiyacu”, with a capacity of 8 thousand barrels (MB) each, were launched today to the Nanay River from the shipyards of the Industrial Service of the Iquitos Marina (SIMAI), company in charge of the construction of a total of 12 barges with capacities of 8 and 20 MB.
With these two new barges, there have been a total of 7 vessels delivered by the SIMAI. The first barges received in 2018 were “Río Putumayo” and “Río Yarapa” of 8 MB each; while this year, the “Río Pisqui” and “Tahuayo” barges, 8 MB, and “Lagunas”, with 20 MB capacity, were received. All of them are already fulfilling their objective of transporting fuels more safely through the rivers of the Forest.
The launch of “Río Urubamba” and “Río Ampiyacu” was carried out with the presence of Carlos Barrientos Gonzales, General Manager of PETROPERU, the Refining Manager, Alfredo Coronel Escobar, the Deputy Manager of Jungle Refining, Oscar Vera Gargurevich, and Company officials. On behalf of the Navy, Vice Admiral Santiago Vascones Morey, Chief of the General Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Javier Bravo of Rueda Delgado, Captain Gonzalo Cruz Saco, Chief of SIMA - Iquitos, and other senior Naval officers participated.
The new barges “Río Urubamba” and “Río Ampiyacu” will soon be added to the Company's navigation fleet, meeting the standards established for the transport of hydrocarbons in the Amazonian rivers, as part of the mission of fueling to the whole country.
