PETROPERU reaffirms its commitment to strengthening a culture of transparency

PETROPERU commemorated the International Day of Access to Public Information, reaffirming its commitment to the consolidation of a culture of transparency and rejection of any dishonest or illegal act, promoting good practices among its workers.

Along these lines and with the encouragement of the Compliance Office, the international discussion "Transparency in PETROPERU's Management" was held virtually, where prominent specialists reported on the mechanisms implemented that generated positive actions in the performance of public institutions.

The Chairman of the Board, Eduardo Guevara Dodds, highlighted the importance of this event, which contributes to making the institution's business management more transparent. In this sense, he argued that integrity and the fight against corruption is a task that is part of the daily life of those who work in PETROPERU.

During his participation, Eloy Murive, Secretary of Public Integrity of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM), said that it is urgent to work according to values and avoid falling into questionable practices that generate an understandable mistrust in citizenship.

Munive recommended deepening transparency, providing information and recognizing errors, in order to regain trust in public institutions, through joint work with the Comptroller's Office and the State Procurement Supervisory Agency (OSCE). To do this, he argued that the PCM offers a free service to report corruption cases in state entities.

“If a person needs to file a complaint about a possible act of corruption or ethical misconduct committed by a worker of a public entity, they can do so online at the Citizen Complaints Platform. To exercise this right, you must have the reasons for the accusation in writing. At the end, you will be given a tracking code to verify the status of the process”, he pointed out.

Eva María López Córdova, Director of Human Rights and Anticorruption at Asociación por el Futuro Abierto, from El Salvador, addressed the topic "Access to Public Information, as a Mechanism to Fight Corruption." She argued that everyone should exercise their right of access to public information, as well as disseminate information about the importance of the right of access to public information as a fundamental right. "It is urgent to support a culture of advocacy in public affairs aimed at the development of our countries," she said.

In turn, Marushka Chocobar Reyes, Secretary of Digital Government of the PCM, said that the government has been working on digital transformation, in order to bring State services closer to citizens and reduce existing gaps, especially in education, health, security and fight against corruption. She indicated that one of the main challenges of the current administration is to ensure that the interaction and collaboration between public entities are safe, efficient and in accordance with current regulations.

She argued that the digital citizen has the right to quality connectivity, access to digital technologies, secure authentication to empathic digital services and participation in the country's decisions.

At the end, the General Manager of PETROPERU, Carlos Barrientos, was emphatic in highlighting that one of the Company's values is transparency, today more than ever, in times of COVID-19. "Citizens demand that we be more transparent, providing confidence to all our stakeholders, for which I urge everyone to continue with transparency in our management," he said.
