PETROPERU ratifies its full compromise of helping affected communities by any spilt of the Peruvian Oil Pipeline
PETROPERU will continue helping affected communities by any spilt of crude oil of the Peruvian Oil Pipeline. The company is concerned of the current incidents so they ratify their compromise of cleaning, repairing any environmental damage, and recovering the area as it was before.
This statement was mentioned in a work meeting in San Lorenzo, capital of the province of Datem del Marañon and had the participation of German Velasquez Salazar, Board Director of PETROPERU; Anibal Velasquez, Health Minister; Fernando Melendez, Regional Mayor of Loreto; Rene Chavez, Mayor of Datem del Marañon; and three other district mayors: Enrique Rivera from Manseriche, Desiderio Alvan from Pastaza and Benjamin Tunqui from Morona. As well as leaders from the native communities and settlers of the area.
Moreover, PETROPERU assumed the responsibility of providing food and water to the affected communities and medical attention if it is necessary. Likewise, the company announced that they would build water wells in the communities that request them with a previous examination of the water quality. The company has also compromised to help the initiative on the construction of fish farms and has ratified that the workers’ daily wage would be of 150 soles (Peruvian currency).
PETROPERU, during its supervising visit, had provided about 9 tons of supplies and water that were brought by air and overland, as part of the preplanned social proposed formative of the Contingency Plan that has been taking place and the sending pf provisions will continue for as long as the restoration takes.
Subsequently, Velasquez Salazar flew over the Marañon and Morona rivers to arrived to Chiriaco located in the Amazon region, where he supervised the progress of the restoration. There he mentioned that the farmers with affected lands will be compensated.
On the the other hand, PETROPERU belied that there has been a third spilt in the Pucara community located in Jaen, Cajamarca. The company has specified that it is about a corrective maintenance of the Peruvian Oil Pipeline, that has been previously programmed. This process operates on a rice field whom owner had been previously contacted and had given the correspondent permission to make use of the field.
PETROPERU ratifies its compromise with the preservation of the environment and is working a 24 hour shift to repair and restore the incident in a short time period.
